Waterproof mascaras often divide opinions. Some prefer the version that withstands any weather, while others find such mascaras too intense and difficult to remove. We surveyed our editorial team to identify the best models and, surprisingly, discovered a regular mascara that happens to be water-resistant.

This mascara from Lancôme is a true find. I usually never spend more than ten or twelve euros on mascara, but during a vacation in Rome, I had no choice. I forgot to pack my usual mascara. Since I don’t feel expressive enough without eye makeup, I had to rush to the nearest perfumery to get a replacement. The saleswoman pointed out the “Hypnôse Mascara” to me. I quickly thought: If I’m going to spend around thirty euros, it should at least be waterproof. After more than two years, I can say that this investment was worth it. The high-quality waterproof mascara lasts longer than some Hollywood marriages. Removing it is no longer child’s play, but I can trust that even after a swim in the lake, I won’t have to fear panda eyes. Plus, it creates incomparable volume and deep blackness.

I’ve been using a mascara for years that isn’t officially waterproof, but it is. The “Luxurious Lashes Maxi Volume Brush Mascara” by Kiko. Even in pouring rain, it has never let me down. Yet, it can be wonderfully removed in the evening. It combines the positive qualities of waterproof and non-waterproof mascara. If Kiko ever decides to change the formula of this mascara, I’ll become a letter-to-the-editor writer.

Waterproof mascaras are ideal for long days, high temperatures, or emotional moments—they don’t smudge and hold reliably, which is why we love them! Especially in the summer or on special occasions, they offer extra security. However, removing them requires a bit more patience: The best options are an oil-based or two-phase makeup remover. Soak a cotton pad with it, gently place it on the closed eye, let it sit for a moment, and remove without rubbing. This way, lashes are protected, and residues are thoroughly removed—even those products that claim to last “forever” in advertisements.
