A fuller, larger bust—many women dream of it. But what truly helps in making breasts bigger, and which methods are just a waste of money? STYLEBOOK expert Dr. Heidi Gößlinghoff has heard these questions countless times. In an interview, she reveals what lies behind the desire for more volume—and what options (theoretically) exist.
Larger breasts without surgery? Many women ask themselves this question—whether out of curiosity, insecurity, or simply because their favorite bra suddenly feels a bit empty. The internet offers countless tips: from malt beer to breast massages to special vitamins. But what really works—and what belongs in the category of “modern fairy tales”? We spoke with renowned gynecologist and reproductive medicine specialist Dr. Heidi Gößlinghoff. Here’s a spoiler: A bag of chips has more influence on your cup size than most dietary supplements.
Overview
“Can I Get Larger Breasts from the Pill?”
Dr. Gößlinghoff hears this question regularly in her practice. Her answer: “Estrogens can make the breasts grow. That means a high-dose pill, for example, or estrogen-rich foods can cause some breast growth.” But before you get your hopes up–there’s a catch: “When you stop taking the pill, it all collapses.”
In short: Yes, hormonal contraceptives can temporarily make breasts larger—but not permanently. The effect is more of a nice side effect and not a reliable concept for larger breasts.
Pregnancy, Weight, Hormones—the Natural Breast-Boost Trio?
Breasts can also change during other life phases. “During pregnancy, the breasts get larger—but you have to get pregnant each time,” says the gynecologist with a wink. Not exactly the most practical method.
Similarly, a few extra pounds can create fuller curves: “With weight gain, the breasts also get larger. But if you lose weight again, the breasts will get smaller,” she explains. They are largely made of fatty tissue, which responds to calories like the rest of the body: More calories, they grow. Fewer calories, they shrink.
Hormones Yes–but With Caution
Many women rely on hormones, for example, in the form of the pill or hormone replacement therapy during menopause. But Dr. Gößlinghoff warns: “If I have a high estrogen level, I also have a high risk of thrombosis and embolism.” Therefore, it’s clear: Hormone treatment solely for larger breasts is not medically justifiable. “This leaves us therapeutically quite limited.”
It’s also clear: Some women report larger breasts while on the pill, simply because it contains estrogens. “But when the contraceptives are stopped, they shrink back to their original size.”
From Malt Beer to Flower Pollen—Unfortunately, All Nonsense
Those hoping for supposedly natural miracle cures will be disappointed by Dr. Gößlinghoff. “Certain things, like flower pollen or malt beer, have no significant effect.” Dietary supplements or special vitamins don’t help either. “I don’t know of any vitamin that makes breasts grow. You can really save your money.”
As for massages, they remain a skincare effect: “The skin can become more beautiful, you can do a lymphatic drainage, but you won’t make the breasts grow.”
Push-Up Instead of Pills—Clever Tricks
If you’re still interested in more volume, you don’t have to resort to surgery. Fashion can work wonders here: “Push-up bras or special inserts can visually enlarge the breasts—without any health drawbacks,” the doctor recommends. The effect: immediately visible, immediately reversible—and absolutely risk-free.

Can Breasts Get Larger Without Surgery? Yes, but Stay Realistic
The desire for larger breasts is understandable, and every woman has the right to feel comfortable in her body. But as is often the case, there are no miracle cures. Hormones work, but with side effects. Weight gain helps, but not everyone wants that. And dietary supplements? Mostly just good for the manufacturers.
If you want to make your breasts look larger, styling tricks can achieve a lot—without any risk. And sometimes that’s enough to face yourself in the mirror with a smile.
