Many women are now forgoing watches since smartphones also display the time. However, wristwatches are a completely underrated accessory. Need proof? These six trendy watches can elevate any outfit in no time!
Once an indispensable everyday companion, watches have been replaced by smartphones today. Yet, for many, they remain a must-have accessory. STYLEBOOK presents the watch trends.
Trend 1: Sporty Metal Watches
The motto for this watch trend is “more is more.” Massive, almost ostentatious metal watches in silver and gold now adorn the wrists of fashionistas. The bigger the case and the wider the band, the better!
Trend 2: The Square Watch
A trend from the ’80s that will adorn many women’s wrists this year is the square wristwatch. The rare case shape is perfect for trendsetters, as it makes a real statement. The geometric shape looks stylish in all colors and with all bands: In gold or with a leather strap, the square watch appears modern and elegant, while in stainless steel, it looks a bit sportier.
In any case, this shape breaks up even the most classic styling and therefore looks particularly cool. The absolute classic among square watches is the “Tank” by Cartier, which was once Lady Diana’s favorite watch.
Trend 3: Watches with Milanaise Bands
Milanaise bands, also known as mesh bands, are the perfect compromise between the classic metal variant and fabric bands. They combine long durability with a light, comfortable feel and are — thanks to the mesh — the optimal choice for summer, as you don’t sweat as quickly under the airy band as you might under a compact leather band. Plus, they look super elegant and stylish!
Trend 4: The All-Black Watch
While black can hardly be called a fashion trend anymore, it’s a different story with wristwatches. The all-black watch is outshining the long-popular dark blue in terms of coolness. Black band, black case, black dial — why is the all-black look so popular? The dark style appears minimalist, timeless, and still elegant.
Trend 5: Minimalist Watches
As mentioned, minimalism is in! This applies to these watch models, although not to the size of the dial, which remains relatively large, but the rest of the design is all the more reduced. This means: A dial without much fuss, simply with hands and indices to show the time, a simple, round metal case in gold or silver, and a solid-colored leather strap in a classic shade like brown or black — and the timeless trend watch is complete!
Trend 6: Smartwatches
Since Apple launched its Apple Watch, smartwatches have been on the rise and often no longer look like small computers. Smartwatches with a round bezel and cases made of gold or stainless steel almost resemble conventional wristwatches. The sportier models in the Apple style with square cases are still popular. However, Apple is no longer the only provider of these cool timepieces. Even traditional watch manufacturers are incorporating smart technology into their watches, which can often be adjusted and controlled with a matching app on the smartphone.

What to Consider When Buying a Watch:
1. Water Resistance
Whether expensive or cheap, a wristwatch should always be water-resistant. Water resistance is indicated in bar (the unit used for pressure). A timepiece marked “3 bar” means the watch can withstand small water splashes. At five bar, the watch can even be taken into the shower, and from a value of ten bar, the watch is suitable for swimming.
2. Band
It depends on personal taste whether you choose a leather or metal band. However, leather bands, even high-quality ones, wear out over time.
3. Craftsmanship of the Watch
Especially with cheaper models, you should take a closer look before buying. For example, if the transition from the band to the case is poorly crafted or the edges are sharp, it can quickly become uncomfortable for sensitive skin. Delicate materials like silk can also be damaged.
4. Glass
Typically, plastic, mineral, and sapphire glass are used, with the latter being particularly resistant. Sapphires are among the hardest materials in the world after diamonds. Only cheap plastic glasses withstand more but are more prone to scratches.
5. Crown
The crown, the small wheel on the edge used to set the watch, should be easy to operate. This is especially true for watches that are not battery-operated and need to be wound up.
