Jessie J has breast cancer. The singer announced this in an Instagram video. Despite the shocking diagnosis, she is trying to stay positive and even made jokes during the announcement.
Recently, British singer Jessie J celebrated a small comeback after a four-year hiatus. In the meantime, she became a mother for the first time. Her son Sky is now two years old. However, the joy of the 37-year-old releasing new music and performing on stage is overshadowed by a breast cancer diagnosis. In an emotional video, she tells her fans she debated for a long time whether to go public with it but ultimately decided to do so.
Breast Cancer in Early Stage for Jessie J
The illness is still in its early stages, the singer explains in the Instagram video—cancer is awful in any form, but she clings to the word “early.” She received the diagnosis at the end of April—by mid-June, she plans to undergo surgery. Before that, she has a performance at the Summertime Ball, a festival at London’s Wembley Stadium.
The decision to go public with the diagnosis also has selfish reasons, the singer explains. She doesn’t talk about it enough and can’t process it because she works so hard. In the past, sharing has helped her, as other people have given her love and support.
Singer Copes With Diagnosis Using Humor
In the short video, the singer also explains that she hadn’t planned this. Despite the shock diagnosis of breast cancer, Jessie J remains in good spirits. She jokes that it’s a very dramatic way to get a breast enlargement. After the performance in London, she will disappear for a while to undergo surgery—and she will return with huge breasts and more music.
Regarding the timing of the diagnosis, the Brit says you couldn’t make this up. She received it while she was just releasing her new song “No Secrets” and shortly before the title “Living My Best Life” was set to launch.
